In 1991, Mr. Brian Duran received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Ohio State University with concentrations in drawing, painting, and printmaking.  Sculpture, however, had yet to be discovered by the artist.  Following college, Brian relocated to San Francisco, California, where he explored a wide range of mediums including plaster, wood, plastic, fiberglass, resin, latex and silicone rubber, murals, Polaroid photography manipulation, as well as papier-mâché.  Brian was one of the founders of the performance space Starcleaners where he was involved in stage/set/props design for various  performance pieces including those by the Starcleaners'  house band, The Knittles. He maintained an art studio at the performance space for several years and had numerous gallery showings while living in San Francisco.

Although working with various mediums was successful and satisfying for the artist, nothing spoke to him as strongly as the versatility and ecological friendliness of papier-mâché.  He proceeded to use this medium in a variety of ways:  large scale abstract sculptures, lamps, tables, chairs, sculptures of animals and people, bowls, and vases.  The more recent body of work shown in this portfolio represents a hybrid of sculpture and painting via papier-mâché.

Brian returned to Ohio in 2000, and continues to work successfully with the papier-mâché/sculpture process at his home studio. He regularly devotes time, as well as one sculpture each year to raise money for Partners in Conservation and the Columbus Zoological Gardens.  In addition to custom multimedia sculptures and paintings, he currently has revived an old love of Polaroid manipulation and lightboxes.  In late 2005, Brian became a freelance artist with a local visual merchandising company called ZenGenius.

Brian, Stan, and Eleanor currently reside in the Victorian Village district of Columbus. Brian also plays keyboards (and a variety of horns, bells, and whistles) in the band Silent Butler.
